Rep. Nick LaLota, R-N.Y., is meeting with Senate Republican leadership staff on Wednesday to privately talk about the state and local tax deduction (SALT), Politico has reported.
The House-passed version of President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” boosted the SALT deduction from $10,000 to $40,000, with a new phase-out for higher earners.
LaLota was one of five Republicans from blue states who pushed to bolster the tax break, which is otherwise unpopular in the GOP conference.
