(Meredith) — A California woman was reunited with her late mother’s wedding ring after the rest of her home was destroyed by the Getty wildfire last week.
Patty Shales fled her home with her dogs and her purse when the fire got close to her home.
The only thing from her house to survive was her mom’s wedding ring, which was found by chance by members of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Fire officials said they found came across the ring box under water along a street curb.
They opened the box and found the ring inside, undamaged.
Shales told KTLA she felt the ring was a gift from her mom in heaven.
“I feel that [my mom] sent me this to tell me that she’s in heaven and she’s okay, and that I’m going to be okay,” Shales told KTLA.
The Getty fire has scored more than 740 acres and destroyed many homes.
Shales said the fire destroyed the house her late husband built and she lost everything in it.
“I’m in shock,” she said. “I don’t have anything else except this.”
Shales told CNN she is thankful her, her daughter and her dogs all survived.
